Slipknot came to Montreal on January 8th, 2005 with opening acts Unearth and Killswitch Engage.   The show started promptly at 7:30pm, which I found odd, usually the doors only open at that time.   So, we missed the first few songs of Unearth.    The venue was at the Jarry Park Tennis Center on the west side of Montreal.    Interesting place for a concert.  They had half the place sectioned off for the show. The sound was good, but I have heard better (we had a small echo effect, but the wall we were near could of caused this as well, and Corey Taylor was hard to hear at some points.    They also needed more bathrooms, and more beer stands...

I brought my digital camera to try and get some pictures.   Going through the front doors, I tried hiding the camera in my coat expecting a "pat" search or something, but they didn't even do that.   So I had no problems getting the camera in the show (I was a little paranoid I would have to check it in and take forever to get it back at the end of the night).   You can see some of the pictures we took at the show down below.

Unearth sounded very good.   Great double bass drums, with a tight chuggy sound.  The singer has a style sorta like Max Cavalera formerly of Sepultura.   I am unfamiliar with Unearth, but they played many songs from their new CD and some old ones, including one from the 1st cd (although I do not know the name...sorry).  I only know this because the lead sing told us.  hehe

Killswitch Engage also sounded good, and had alot of energy on stage to get the crowd ready for Slipknot.   They played their Resident Evil soundtrack and CD title song "End of Heartache" (cool song) which sounded awesome and they finished their set with "My Serenade".  I am also not a big fan of Killswitch Engage, but they have a great sound live and played my favorite tunes  :)   The vocalist has some great talent, which shows off in these songs, but he is too screamy for my tastes.   I like screamy, but not excessively.  Take a listen to My Serenade, you will know what I mean by the vocal talents verus screamy....I recorded a 7 second video during Killswitch Engage doing "End of Heartache" which came out kinda cool, but hard to be incognito holding a camera filming the show, but wish I recorded more.   You can watch it by clicking here.

Before Slipknot hit the stage, the fog started and the lights dimmed, and (515) started to play (I think that's what it was... I was mesmerized they were starting and didn't really take note).  Then the 9 members of the band walk out on stage and start right in with "(sic)".   "HERE COMES THE PAIN"  whoohooo.   Lead singer Corey Taylor brushed up on his French for the Quebec show, yelling "Comment allez vous!" and a few other French sayings.  At one point a young girl was carried out half unconscious, she grabbed on to me as she past, paramedics and the Montreal police department were onsite for the show, so she was able to get the help she needed.   The setlist was almost the same as the Ottawa show in August, but they didn't play Purity and replaced it with Vermillion.   Before Vermillion, there was a brief pause and they came back out without their masks!   They only had their black face paint on.    Very cool....  And for some reason, either we moved a bit or something, but during and after Vermillion, the bass was really kicking.    After Vermillion, the masks came back on.  Slipknot played classic songs like (sic), Eyeless,  Wait and Bleed, Spit it Out, People=Shit, Disasterpiece, Heretic Anthem, Left Behind, IOWA, Surfacing and new tunes like Blister Exists, Three Nil, Duality, Vermillion, and Pulse of the Maggots.  They finished with Spit it Out, I was disappointed with the crowd on this song.  If you know Slipknot live, Corey Taylor makes everyone sit down and "jump the fuck up" at a certain part of the song.  In Ottawa, everyone, and I mean everyone sat down and stayed down (which Corey thought was unbelievable), but in Montreal, there were suborn people not getting down and people jumping up prematurely.   Anyway, still a very cool part of the show.    For the encores, we heard Wait and Bleed, People=Shit and they ended the show with Surfacing.   As they were throwing drum sticks, and saying good night to everyone, they had "Prelude 3.0" playing in the background "Now it's over...", perfect outro to a great show.

Here are some pictures we took at the show.   Some of them are not the best quality, you have to understand the conditions in the crowd and trying to hold a camera steady, but some came out good.  You can view full size by clicking on any of them.
