We went to see Music as a Weapon 5 tour with Disturbed, Korn and
opening act Stillwell at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa on March 30th,
2011. Prior to the show, my wife went to Internation Musicland in
Barrhaven to met Ray Luzier (drummer of Korn). She said he was such a
nice guy, spoke to him for almost 10 minutes, got pictures, signed a
drum skin for her, and she got me a poster signed from him as well.
Stillwell opened the show, which I didn't realize Feildy (Korn bassist) was their guitarist, and Wuv Bernado (P.O.D.) was their drummer. Their sound and songs were very cool. A fusion of metal and hiphop. Their setlist was quite short, would have liked to hear more. Their first CD comes out on May 2011.
The Korn show was awesome, but again too short. They played only for an hour. They made good use of their shirt time, playing most of their popular songs, but they did not play one of my favorites, Somebody Someone. They made some minor changes to their songs, which would catch you off guard. The band sound really good with Jonathan Davis sounds just as awesome, and of course played the bagpipes for Shoots and Ladders. They finished their set with Y'all Want a Single.
Disturbed put on a great show too. Their entire backdrop was video screens. Unfortunately, not sure if it was where we were sitting but disturbed did not sound very good.. well mostly the guitars were too trebley, and not well defined. David's voice was just awesome, sounds just like the CDs. they played quite a few new songs, and all their old favorites in the short time they played. They played just over an hour as well. During the set, David pulled up a yound kid on the stage to talk to him (see video below).
During Disturbed, the guys next to us came back to their seats with a signed Korn shirt, and told us Fieldy is just in the hall! WOW, we booted out there, and got to met Stillwell. They were very nice, they were selling CDs for $20 to be signed, or a free poster. We went with the CD, got our pictures taken with them. We were both a little starstuck! Then saw Feildy again at the merchandise booth at the front of the Scotiabank Place as people were leaving. I am sure he was getting tired of the meet and greets by then.
It was an awesome show, and an awesome day to meet Ray and Fieldy from Korn, and the drummer from P.O.D. Below are the setlists from each band, some videos of the show, and pictures my friends and I took (friends were on the other side of the venue).
